In response to the very busy and controversial time in our nation's history, the librarians have created a letter writing station in the library. Students: you are welcome to write letters to our elected officials (we have provided a number of addresses for our New York State elected officials). We have also printed a number of articles about ongoing current events, in case you want to keep yourself up-to-date about the issues and refer to concrete events in your writing. We have provided paper, envelopes, pens, and the school has generously offered to pay for postage! Visit the library and make your voice HEARD! Letter Writing Tips 1. Explain why you are writing and who you are. If you want a response, you must include your name and address, or email address. 2. Provide detail and be as specific as possible. It is OK to provide personal stories/anecdotes but remain coherent and professional. Provide specific rather than general information about how the topic affects you and others. If a certain bill is involved, cite the correct title or number whenever possible. 3. Close by requesting the action you want taken: a vote for or against a bill, or change in general policy. The best letters are courteous, to the point, and include specific supporting examples. How to Address an Envelope
