Our students need a cart to display/transport our Makerspace supplies, a green screen to take great library photos, bullet journals to keep students organized, and supplies for our Makerspace and for learning to draw Manga. We'd love your support of our Donorschoose project! Visit the site to donate: www.donorschoose.org/project/anime-animates-our-library/3014320/?utm_source=dc&utm_medium=directlink&utm_campaign=project&utm_term=teacher_695676&rf=directlink-dc-2018-03-project-teacher_695676&challengeid=120890 My Project There are so many exciting projects happening in the library this year, and these supplies support hundreds of students. In March, a Manga artist is visiting our library and giving a workshop on the anime style of drawing and our students want to practice this style of drawing too!Since our Visual Arts department has a digital focus, it's crucial that student have a chance to learn new drawing techniques and we want to have materials available then (and afterwards) to support their interest. For this reason, I have added specialized markers and paper to our requests. We can really use another cart to keep our Makerspace supplies organized and easier to transport. We also hope to host a workshop on Bullet Journals, an easy way for students to stay organized. These notebooks will allow students to try out this technique! We can use some patterned duct tape for our Makerspace in the spring, as well as additional supplies for our crocheting unit and embroidery unit (both of which were surprisingly popular!) Finally, we also think the addition of a green screen will enhance the ways our library can engage students with media. We are grateful for the SparkFun and Donorschoose grants, which allowed us to create our amazing LED light-up cards (and creations) in December. We wrote a blog post for SparkFun to teach others about our process and tips. Enjoy reading it here!
Enjoy the newest calendar of Makerspace activities, made possible by generous parents and donors! We look forward to seeing your creations!
The librarians would like to remind students of the library guidelines. It's important that the library remains a space where students can work productively...while also having an opportunity to unwind. Thank you for helping us maintain a friendly, working environment.
The Brooklyn Technical High School library has been awarded several generous grants. We're thrilled to excited to see the library enhanced through the addition of a Makerspace, where students can build, learn, create and play.
The Library Makerspace has a rotating schedule of hands-on activities. Through December, students can make paper circuit cards using copper tape, batteries and LED lights. Students can also crochet and knit (or learn how!). In January, we will have cardboard sculptures and embroidery. Student library monitors work at the Makerspace each period, helping to teach skills (upon request), troubleshoot and keep materials organized. They have become adept at completing circuits, identifying the positive charge on a LED or battery, untangling yarn and picking up dropped stitches! Thank you to the Alumni Foundation, Spark Fun Electronics and the many parents and friends who donated our Makerspace supplies through Donors Choose and other grants. |
